The Myth of Natural Hair Loss Treatments. Why they Don’t Work!

As we age, we are constantly noticing changes in our bodies. None, however is as devastating as losing our hair! There are presently many options for a thinning hair treatment, from pills to lotions to lasers. But, which ones of these actually work as a female hair loss treatment? Let’s first explore the arena of natural hair loss treatments.

Researching both in magazines and on the internet there are a plethora of ideas. Many tout a proper diet first. Great idea! We all would be better served if we got our recommended amount of protein, iron, zinc and Omega 3’s. Yes, this is an important part of a healthy body therefore creating the best environment for optimal hair growth. However, not all health nuts have great heads of hair…so there must be more!

Reduce stress! True, this is very important for our overall health including our scalp. Get plenty of exercise, breathe properly, meditate, get rid of all negative thoughts sounds wonderful, but men and women have real lives and jobs and commutes to deal with, so this will never be consistent unless we move to the countryside. Ah, you folks living in the countryside can attest, however, that living in remote areas has its own reasons for stress. Wild animals, chopping wood, doing laundry by hand on the rocks in a stream…OK, crazy as it sounds, man was built to stress about something!

How about herbal remedies for thinning hair? When I look up the herbs and concoctions for pastes or pills there are things that I (and even the folks in whole Foods) have never heard of. Good luck finding some of the things recommended, and when I did, they were expensive and the concoctions were messy. As far as taking anything orally? Hmmm, I want to know what is going into this body!

Oils were also touted as both stripping the scalp of pore blocking matter and as stimulating the scalp into hair production. Coconut, olive, almond, rosemary, lavender and geranium were the top natural oils for natural hair loss treatment. These options were very messy, expensive and required a lot of mixing and “down time” as you wait for them to sink in, then wash and restyle your hair. Way too much trouble!

Massage was another wonderful option. No, not whole body massage, but do it yourself (or find a very patient partner) head massage. Every day, the more the better, scalp massage does increase blood flow…but mostly to the scalp surface only. Other treatments like low level laser therapy (LLLT) delivered by a laser hair brush actually get the blood flowing below the outer layer of your scalp and move the blood’s nutrients along faster to the follicles down IN the scalp. That is where help for thinning hair occurs.

The craziest idea or piece of equipment is a needle roller. Yes, you read it correctly…a small roller on a handle that has 540 needles embedded in it to roll over your scalp. Sounds to me like aerating your lawn! (Maybe that is where they got this nutty notion.) Oh, yes, and it is also great for reducing stretch marks and cellulite…OUCH! Speaking of pain, how about a cayenne pepper, coriander juice or even onion juice treatment? Pain and stink are what come to mind. Fenugreek and yogurt would make a lovely way to spend the day as well. At least with the food choices, we may not need to go hungry either. Feed your head, Alice!

All humor aside though, these ideas just do not work as well as the latest natural laser hair therapy treatments. The use of a laser hair brush (like the onetime purchase of the Nutreve Personal Hair Therapy Laser) ends up being not only cost effective, actually work and a lot less time consuming than any of the remedies listed above. Plus…you won’t scare others away with the sights or smells of some of these. The time saved can be used toward exercise and meditation classes!!!
